Ice Cream

If you want to get a great view of the city, don't pay $10 to go up the Hancock to the observation deck on the 94th floor; instead go to the Hancock's Signature Lounge on the 96th floor for free, hang out, and buy an enormous $10 martini! (Makes the fast elevator-ride down more fun!)

The Slow Food guide to Chicago, which was published last year, is a great resource. (For that matter, Slow Food, which has a Chicago chapter, is a great organization.)

Oh yeah, them carrots -- they came from a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) farm called Angelic Organics. My boyfriend and I split a share (= a subscription for a weekly box of produce grown at this farm, delivered to Hyde Park) with one other person. CSAs are a great model -- good for farmers and good for busy people who can't make it to farmer's markets but want their vegetables local and delicious. You also get to visit the farm pretty much whenever you want, and they have events with hayrides, pumpkin picking, and fun stuff like that.http://www.angelicorganics.com
